Pour parler de la météo en anglais, on utilise souvent It’s + adjectif ou It’s + verbe en -ing. On dit par exemple It’s sunny mais It’s raining. Ces deux structures ne sont pas interchangeables.
Le vocabulaire essentiel
| Anglais | Français | Structure |
|---|---|---|
| It’s sunny. | Il fait beau / Il y a du soleil. | It’s + adjectif |
| It’s cloudy. | Le ciel est nuageux. | It’s + adjectif |
| It’s windy. | Il y a du vent. | It’s + adjectif |
| It’s foggy. | Il y a du brouillard. | It’s + adjectif |
| It’s hot / warm / cold. | Il fait chaud / doux / froid. | It’s + adjectif |
| It’s raining. | Il pleut. | It’s + verbe en -ing |
| It’s snowing. | Il neige. | It’s + verbe en -ing |
Rainy et snowy sont aussi des adjectifs : It’s rainy today décrit un temps pluvieux ; It’s raining indique qu’il pleut au moment où l’on parle.
Poser une question et répondre
| Fonction | Formulation naturelle | Exemple de réponse |
|---|---|---|
| Demander la météo | What’s the weather like? | It’s cold and cloudy. |
| Préciser le lieu | What’s the weather like in London? | It’s raining in London. |
| Préciser le moment | What’s the weather like today? | It’s sunny today. |
| Parler d’une habitude | Is it often windy here? | Yes, it is. / No, it isn’t. |
| Demander la température | What’s the temperature? | It’s twelve degrees. |
Construire une courte description
Une réponse claire peut contenir trois informations : le temps, la température et une conséquence.
Today, it’s cold and windy. It’s eight degrees. I’m wearing a warm coat.
Pour parler de fréquence, place l’adverbe avant l’adjectif : It’s often rainy in autumn, It’s sometimes foggy, It’s never very cold here. Le mot always ne fait donc pas partie de toutes les phrases météo : il signifie seulement « toujours ».
Erreurs fréquentes
- It’s rain est incorrect pour dire « il pleut » : écris It’s raining.
- There is sunny est incorrect : écris It’s sunny.
- How is the weather like? mélange deux constructions : utilise What’s the weather like?
- N’ajoute pas always sans raison : It’s always sunny signifie qu’il fait toujours beau.
